San Juan, Puerto Rico

Finally got my challenge done. I printed on fabric a photo that I took looking out a window in the fort in San Juan, Puerto Rico last fall. I fused the shapes of the wall and tower, grass and water, then free-motion quilted the whole thing. It measures only 6 1/2" x 10 1/2", because I wanted to be able to scan and then post it.
Comments and critiques are very welcome!

Nice use of color and quilting to convey depth. I can feel the gloomy inside just as though I'm standing there.

Katie, what a nice piece. So serene, restful and one can almost feel the warm ocean breezes. I like the 'view' in the distance. What impresses me is how you have captured the light on the walls around the opening. How did you do that? Will you share?

I am glad you did this and posted it.

The picture is just what showed up when I looked at it on the computer. I admit to playing with the contrast with Photoshop Elements 5.0. The blue color around the window opening appeared, and I printed it real fast! Used about half of the black ink in my printer!

Oh, I love the perspective on your quilt! The gloomy walls with the light coming in. The view from the window showing the wall and green pastures.

Beautiful work!

Hi Katie,
The walls on this are just wonderful...so much character captured with your threadwork. Good perspective and depth, too. What if you quilted the sky more so it is pushed back...would that increase the feeling of depth?
Great job!
