MINESHAFT

There are many old abandoned mines in deserts and mountains. Sometimes when you stumble across one, it looks like a bottomless pit (it often is!) surrounded by plant overgrowth and rocks. Careful, or you might fall in! One slip of the foot sends rocks and sand tumbling down into the shaft.

I believe you've caught the movement of the rocks by going from larger to smaller. Perhaps some quilting lines on top of the rocks to show movement?
The spider webs are great! You've got movement and depth.

I can almost hear those rocks tumbling down that shaft.
I like it.

If you had some colored pencils, or Shiva sticks or some watercolor crayons...you could chose a light source direction and shades some of the wood ...making some shadows ...I think it would add to the depth of the shaft itself. I think this piece was really original...I didn't want to stand near the edge!

Hi Karen, wow...amazing perspective! Until I enlarged the photo, I thought you had taken the photo with it laying on a table instead of the wall. Great angles, love the rocks.

I had a couple thoughts: What would it look like with some quilting lines showing the path of the falling rocks or even a few hand stitches here and there around the rocks to indicate the movement..like a "( )"
Would using more shades of green on the plants add to the interest and variety of the piece?

I really like the extra touches of the spider and webs as well as the shading on the rocks. Great job!

Karen,
You definitely got the perspective in this. I feel as if I'm standing on the edge. Makes me want to step back- I'm not good with heights (or depths). I also agree with the ideas for shadowing, and maybe some variety in the green of the plants. Just a touch of colored pencil, etc. would do it. Great job!

What depth you created with this piece. I can almost hear the stones falling and crashing against the beams and my foot sliding to a stop on the edge. I really like it!
