Moose

This piece utilized several techniques that included freezer paper stencil on a silk screen for the shadow moose (Lyric Kinard's quituniversity.com class). The front moose was transformed using Beth Wheelers difusement maps tutorial and digitally printed, I used trupunto to bring it forward more. The background is paint sticks on a hand painted background and the thread work added.

Very cool! What interesting techniques you have employed. What is a 'diffusement map'?
Have you considered maybe lightening / softening the shadow a bit? It is so strong it sort of overpowers your lovely moose (IMHO).

Hi Rita, You've used some interesting techniques on this piece! Do you think you'll use them again? What would you do differently if anything? I really like the background trees and the moose...good shading and interesting shapes. I think the foreground would come forward and create more depth if there were some clearer or brighter color or more defined foliage. I agree about the shadow moose...it seems to be larger and more vivid than the moose itself.

Hi Rita - I like the background. You did a great job with your hand painting and the use of the paintstiks. And the front moose is very well done - I like the variations in colors and the stitching you've done on it. I feel like the shadow moose has too much color and detail to effectively read as a shadow. You've got a good direction going - maybe an edit or two and it could be even better.

Interesting composition, I too feel the shadow moose could be a bit 'duller'...overall I think it is a great piece. What a lot of techniques you have used.

Hi Rita,
Love your Moose! My dad lives at the foot of the Bighorn Range in northern Wyoming and I see these magestic creatures every summer on top of the mountain. If you feel the shadow is too dark, maybe you could use a silver paint stick and add a "mist" over the shadow and along his feet in front to soften.

Hi Rita, I like that you took a risk with techniques, this is more complex than your usual work. I like the size of the shadow/spirit and the value. Is there a way to make the moose more prominent with more detail?
