Strata
This is my piece called Strata. It is pieced with a curved piecing method, the seams are emphasized with metallic thread in a triple stitch. Each bead is attached individually by hand. The colour is not great, and I had a difficult time up loading the picture. Somehow I got into Picasa, and then it refused to upload the close-up. My colour choices include turquoise and purple with some touches of pink. The piece is faced rather than bound and is 11 1/2" by 10".

A very effective piece with the simplicity of the piecing and the wonderful choice of beads. I like the jagged lines you made with the beads also.

boy, a viewer will enjoy looking at all your interesting beads and their arrangement. Really keeps the eye moving.

Delicious! The colors give it a far away feel and the irregular line of the beads is appropriate. I am wondering how it would look if you added just a short line of beads from the 'point' of the beads in the second from the top dark layer of strata out toward the upper left corner? Just a thought that might add to overall feel of strata variation.

I like that the straight line of the long bead creates tension with the curved lines. Beautiful color use. What would happen if you extended a couple of the lines of beads to engage the edge?
Hi Pat, this is a lovely piece...very serene. Did you consider a bit of shocking color to create more excitement and draw ther viewer in for a closer look? A few orange beads or a sliver of hot pink fabric? Just a thought, it's really lovely. Great job!

Pat, great job, I love the curved piecing, really gives the viewer the feel layered earth. I also love the beads, great variety. Not sure what if anything I would change, maybe if you had had a few pink beads in the mix as Cynthia suggested, it would have added just a bit of interest, and give the eye a starting focal point for viewing.

I am felling like Cynthia on this one, I love the serene colors but what would a line of shocking color do to the piece? Just a small zinger?
It is a lovely piece of work, and certainly does meet the challenge.
You've translated the veins of quartz etc. very well with the beads. Although yours is much more colorful, it looks just like the mountainsides around here, with their layers of strata and bold zigzag sections of quartz running bottom to top. Good job

What a serene scene. The curves are wonderful. I, too, think it would be a little more interesting with some contrasting color. However, it is very pleasing and certainly satisfies the challenge as is.
