Challenge 49-Chiara..whatever!

Even if I can't pronounce chiaroscuro, it was great trying to come up with a project to fit. This one is fused and finished only with stitching--no extra surface design techniques. The photo shows a little lighter than it seemed as I was making it. The size is about 8 x 10, satin stitched edges and if it has to have a title it would be Forsythia 1.

I love critiques and suggestions, but this time I really would like to know if you think I actually did what the challenge asked.

Thanks,
Kathy Schmidt-Quirks Ltd

I love the fall colors and the use of complementary colors (yellow and purple.) The colors are very effecting, and the building seems to be casting a good shadow.

It is a beautiful piece, and I think you nailed it onthe chiaroscuro challenge. The yellow leaves seem to glow with sunlight, in great contrast to the deep purple of the barn.

I see light from a crack in the building which means the barn door in the back must be wide open! I would have liked to see a line of light stretching out from that crack across the green grass, probably too much to ask, huh? You have captured the light falling between the plants and barn and it's a really good abstraction of the forsythia plant.

I think this is a fabulous piece.... love the light and shadows. Don't change a thing!
I can just imagine the sun behind the barn illuminating the tree...

You certainly have created a dramatic view of the forsythia by using contrast, so by my definition you nailed this challenge. I could see this being the start of a series, if you are so inclined. Some people like barns in a big way!

Hi Kathy, well done! Dramatic contrast as well as the shadowing is just beautiful. Are some of the fabrics hand painted?

Hi Kathy, I love this piece. I saw it first on my phone and had to come to the site to see in larger format! You really captured the light well. Kuddos!

My favorite part of this is the light on the barn door and the brightness on the barn. The purple and yellow complimentary colors really rock.

The complimentary colors (yellow/purple) really work well together in this piece. Well done.
