Not denim................but it is recycled silk.
I have never done anything quite like this before, I have
to say I 'loved' doing it and it may become my statement.
Silk is second to none. This is totally free-motion thread painted, then I used colored pencils to color the flowers within the outline stitching.
What are 'dents' are from the pins, and I haven't finished the edges yet. I am hoping for some candid comments and suggestions for the finishing.
They say, no border on art quits, binding.....skinny at that, so what do you think? I
am tempted to do a machine scalloped edge and a skinny binding in something pale, may be very light turquoise?

ReplyDeleteI have heard "them" say that art quilts shouldn't have borders, but why not? People mat their paintings and drawings all the time. I think it depends on the particular piece, and the look you want. I think a border on this quilt could be distracting if your not careful about it. What if you bound it in the same offwhite as the background fabric and inserted a narrow strip of accent color between the quilt and the binding?

First off you are brilliant for not using denim. I do like your thread work - it might be nice to consider some thread work in the back ground. Also you might want to put a small black binding on it - the black frames it.
ReplyDeleteI like the way you set the vase off-centre and I like the delicate colours you've used. I could see a fairly narrow border in a pale shade....turquoise, maybe? just to frame the piece. I agree with Linda. Drawings and paintings can look great matted. Why not mat an art quilt with a border?
