June Roses
My series is Seasons and I started with spring. The orientation is diagonal. Colors red and green. I quilted the whole thing first and then sewed ribbon on for the fence. Then I appliqued silk flowers onto it. Size: 19" x13-1/2".
Betty, this is a very nice compsition. The fence draws the eye into the scene. The one thing that bothers me with your complimentary color is the top fabric. It looks blue on my monitor, is it green?
Hi Betty, Love the brilliant red with the subdued greens..very pleasing. and nice contrast with the white fence. Did you consider any other fabrics for the back wall? The gray combined with the toned down green creates a gloomy feel...and maybe that is what you were going for with blooms brightening a gray scene. A different fabric there would create a totally different feel...could be rich, cheerful or exotic with a deep green hand dye, pale green print or red & green batik. I always enjoy your work...glad you are back for another year of fun! Cynthia
Hi Betty, You did a great job of drawing the eye in. I wonder what would happen if you put some shading under the fence of roses with fabric paint? Nice composition.
Hi Betty...I love your red roses against the green and the white fence...but the sky seems somehow out of place to me. It feels like it just doesn't belong. Have you tried anything different? I think Cynthia's suggestions sound lovely and worth a try. Maybe make the horizon a tad less straight as well? I love your work...just my thoughts:) Cherie
I love the way you have appliqued silk flowers onto your piece. Are the leaves silk also? I find the sky detracts from this piece; perhaps a sunset pink sky. Well done Betty
Hi Betty - The bright flowers and shiny green leaves are very appealing as they grow along the fence. I particularly like the way you have extended the one leaf past the edge of the quilt. I think the sky doesn't seem to relate to the rest of the picture you have created. The sky colors are isolated - they don't seem to connect with the rest of your pleasing composition.

ReplyDeleteIt is two shade of gray and black.

I agree. I could have used a better sky.

ReplyDeleteSounds like a good idea but I'm afraid of paints. I always make such a mess.

Yes, the leaves are also silk.

ReplyDeleteHi Betty - I see you've replaced the sky fabric. It seems more pleasing to my eye. Do you like it better?
ReplyDeleteYes.

Hi Betty, sorry to be so late commenting, I do prefer the second one... the one with the grey.
ReplyDeleteNice, The roses are great!
