Challenge 38 Wen Redmond
I chose to do a Holographic Images, a Multi-level Surface Design/Mixed Media. Original image digitally printed twice for holographic 3-D effects. The piece is mounted. I invented this method of digital fiber and it was published in Quilting Arts magazine in 2007.
I went for very subtle effects. There is a tiny fern on bottom right. Fabrics are hand dyed, sun printed, painted, and surface designed in a variety of ways to enhance finished photograph.
I feel serene when viewing your piece.....it's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThe holographic print is so cool. I'll have to look at the article again; I don't remember it from the first time around. You say you have it mounted, so you haven't done any quilting on it, right? I really like the subtle fern and the texture in the fabric. I wonder what it would look like if you added some quilting to echo the fern?

Gorgeous! Wen your work is fasinating to me. Such depth and softness of color makes the bird seem lifelike.
ReplyDeleteI have quilted the borders before and it probably would add details, but in this piece, it just needed to be 'quiet'.

ReplyDeleteOf course, birds are my thing so I'd love this no matter what. I, too, am going to have to return to the Quilting Arts edition and read to see how you do this. I love the overall softness of this piece attained using the grays. I like the fern but it seems that in such a horizontal position it seems to draw the eye down and away from the bird. I'm wondering if it had been curved upward and maybe back toward the bird if it would have brought the eye back?

ReplyDeleteHi Wen - This is so delicately beautiful. It reminds me of those rainy days that I love because they make everything appear so soft and ethereal. I am fascinated by the holographic part of this piece and the depth it adds. Lovely.

ReplyDeleteI love the whole effect and am glad you took a picture from the side as well. I'm not familiar with the Holographic images technique you mention and I don't have that issue of QA. I'm going to have to buy a back issue!
