- painting over acrylic paints with a transparent black Setacolor. The acrylic acted as a resist so only the unpainted areas took the black paint. I love this way of working.
- adding Golden's mica chips in gel medium for some celestial glitz.
Here is a detail
I have another one painted, but it is not stitched as yet.
OK, I am ready for the next challenge.
Hi Gerrie
ReplyDeleteVery cool...I can feel the pull of the black hole! Great effects you have created with the paint and foil. How did you apply the mica chips?
Terrific interpretation of the challenge!

This was worth the wait Gerrie. I like the depth you have created with color and stitching. Nice!
ReplyDeleteWow! This really looks like it has depth. Very cool. I wish I could touch it because it looks like it has great texture, too. I like the blotches of color in the background; very evocative of other celestials bodies "out there". I don't know what mica chips are; I'm going to have to look those up.
ReplyDeleteI really love the way this piece draws you in. I especially like the placement of the largest element and the use of the foiling. Very effective. The detail - with its crop is in itself really interesting! Good job!!
ReplyDeleteThis is marvelous, Gerrie. I often think stuff like foil is gimmicky but it is PERFECT for this piece. Excellent job of cropping, too. Great job!
ReplyDeleteGreat job, Gerrie! wonderful depth and dimension and beautiful shine...I really like it

What a wonderful Black Hole. I like the painting technique that you used and the mica thing. I also will have to check that stuff out in my dick blick book. You really nailed this one!
