This has been a busy spring and I haven't had the time to participate the past couple of months. We bought the property next door which has a small building that will be used as a quilt studio and guest house. While moving sewing items over there yesterday, I came across Bargello-Bears which I made a couple of years ago, and I realized this is the geology strata that is this month's challenge.
I apologize for using an older quilt, but I so wanted to take part in this month's challenge.
After making the strata, I wasn't happy with the quilt, so I started adding applique items, until I was happy with the result. I think it is more interesting with the bears, fish, and trees added.
It fits the challenge nicely. Very nice job.

Linda I like your colors it does look like a fall scene in the mountains. I think I would have enjoyed it a bit more if your bargello sections had been a bit larger(longer)and you had used fewer fabrics for the background. The 20 fabrics makes the bargello it a bit busy, and I can see where the strata without the applique wouldn't have pleased you, the trees esp add a design feature that links and ties all of the of background colors together. Hope you get settled in soon.

ReplyDeleteVery interesting use of a bargello background. Your trees add the prefect touch, creating dimension to your piece. It's great how you took a flat bargello and turned it into a 3d scene! Nice work!
ReplyDeleteSo fun to study this piece! Every time I look at it I see something new. At first glance, I saw the birch trunks as waterfalls and liked the idea. Took me a while to see the connection with the tree canopies...lol. I especially like the jumping fish and fishing bear.I love the color progression, I think it gives a nice sense of depth and dimension...Love it!
