I've posted my piece Dragonfly at Sunset. The finished size is 10 1/2 inches by 6 1/2 inches.
I played with the lightening in the background rather than the object. The dragonfly is beaded. The cattails are made out of polar fleece. I found the vertical lines fun to use for the landscape rather than the horizontal lines I usually use.
Small fun happy piece.

Lisa, I think the effect of the color gradation background is effective. Polar fleece for the cattails looks great! Chris Predd
ReplyDeleteHi Lisa, Good job...very dramatic...that's what we were going for! Did you consider a different edge finish? Because it's a small piece, the binding looks a bit big and might be boxing in the view.
ReplyDeleteGreat use of color and pattern. Cynthia
Way to go, Lisa. Love the fleece as the cattails. Great use of light and it really does glow.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Cynthia, the binding feels a bit heavy, a facing might have just let the color drift to the edge.
Love the choice of colors for contrast!
The polar fleece was a great choice for the cattails - it provides good texture and contrast, making them look real. I also like the vertical placement of the colors. Nice job. LindaMac
ReplyDeleteI love your strata background. It moves the light so very well. The cattails look quite real. Very dramatic!

Nice use of color! This one gets the challenge in my opinion.. that almost blinding shaft of light.. contrasted with the dark cattails. The fleece works well...Yes, a happy piece!
ReplyDeleteElegant in it's simplicity! I wonder, what if you were to add just a small touch of a luminescence to the right edges of the cattails just to suggest the bright sun kissing them.
ReplyDeleteAlso, perhaps remove the border on the top and right side and leave just the bottom and left side . Would this perhaps visually expand the piece?
I love it!!!

Your piece has very pleasing colors and interesting textures. I would have never thought of using polar fleece but it sure works well.
