What a fun challenge this was! Trompe L'oeil is one of my very favorite forms of art.
I used a piece of fabric that I dyed last Tuesday and black chiffon for the shadows. The faux metal connectors are black ribbon with silver sharpie to suggest roundness.
Thank you Chris for a terrific challenge!
Comments and suggestions are appreciated...

Cherie....the shadows and highlighting on the metal bars make this a great example of this technique. I like your quilting as well! Chris Predd
ReplyDeleteWow, Cherie, you're fast! I haven't even sketched yet. Very effective piece... great balance of negative and positive space. Way to go!
ReplyDeleteThe shadows make this piece realistic and give it depth and dimension too. Great job!
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely an amazing dimensional work. It is really hard to believe it is flat. This is TOTALLY FAB!
ReplyDeleteI like the abstractness of this piece, the dimensionality you achieved, and the way it seems to be floating & rotating in space. Nice...
ReplyDeleteCherie your abstract take on this is wonderful. The piece really floats off the paqe.
ReplyDeleteCheri - This is a great work of Art- Very imaginative and creative. It really floats- terrific idea

This has a great sense of depth and I just love the colors. I especially like the echo quilting in the background which really emphasizes the oval shape. Great job. Veronica Von Zwehl
ReplyDeleteCherie,
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful example of trompe l'oeil! I would not have thought to create an abstract piece but yours is perfect - great "dimension"!
