Right Brain: Solitude

9" X 9"

Fused, minimally quilted

My solitude is a daily swim during which creative solutions emerge.

Great challenge

  1. Your use of complementary colors adds great visual appeal to your quilt, and the dripping water is just plain fun! I am assuming that the quilted shape is a lily pad, but I have to tell you how I first interpreted it. I spent almost all of my working career in medical care as an x-ray tech and an ultrasonographer. This is to explain why at first glance I thought to myself,"why did she quilt a brain back there?"!!
    Good job.

  2. water is a good choice for solitude. I love the stitching on two sides.

  3. I think the quilted brain represents the emerging creative solutions. The dripping water is a nice touch and I like the stitching on only two sides. Nice quilt.

  4. I thought it was a brain, too (Ann, old sonographers have to stick together!)...
    Love the red toe!

  5. Great. You have made my day. It IS a brain (The left hemisphere has its sulci and gyri thread painted and the right brain is swimming) but artistically it is integrated into the water forms. Thank you for your comments, Sue

  7. Great composition. Good use of a batik or print for the leg fabric. At first I thought "lily pad" but then no---I see the brain too. Will have to disagree about the programmed stitching on the two sides. I don't think it adds to the piece. Would LOVE to see this done larger! Really well done.

  8. Neat piece! I am no xray tech., but recognized the brain right away. I love the water splashes...have you considered maybe having a couple of water streams cascading over the bottom border and hanging free off the bottom edge?
