Good Locks Make Honest Men

What a coincidence!  I'm just finishing postcards for an exchange with doors as the theme.  My door is an old, deserted farmhouse door that has been bolted against intruders.  I used ink that I put on my finger and rubbed into the fabric.  Then I cut the fabric into narrow strips to resemble boards.  The door has real screen in it.  I quilted around each shape to make sure they all held despite using fusible.

 I've titled it "Good Locks Make Honest Men" or at least they try to...

    Wonderful detail on this one. The boards looks absolutely authentic and the screen is perfection. A great answer to the challenge, and very timely for you.

    I love the idea of staining the fabric edges before using it. How GREAT is it to have one art quilt complete to challenges. I just love it when that happens.

    Very detail oriented! I really like the shading on it and the knob and locks are very authentic looking. Nice job!

    Fun use of the actual screen for a convincing touch of realism. I also like the technique of applying the paint for a variation in texture/shading. Good job!

    I, too, like how you've used separate (inked) strips to resemble boards. It works well! I think the locks are neat too. It does have a feel of 'deserted farmhouse'.

    A screen door on a weathered house, padlocked for who knows how long ... Like a ghost town, it conjures questions on who left that house and how long ago. Your technique for the aged wood is great. And as a postcard, you can leave the edge rough, and that also fits the idea of a neglected old house.
