Using negative space, the
key emphasizes the Detroit skyline, including the Renaissance Center, the
Penobscot building and the Ambassador Bridge among others.
It was designed in Make
the Cut software cut out with my electronic cutter.
I would love suggestions on how to quilt it.
I designed it with two versions. One has a circle for the keyhole and one with a heart...which one do u think would work better?
Feedback would be very much appreciated.
Thanks
Very cool, Meena. I like it with the heart. I would quilt vertical lines in the white space, horizontals in the black area above the buildings, and concentric circles in the round part of the key. Looks like you've already got a perfect frame for it!!

ReplyDeletethis is an excellent interpretation of the challenge. It is fun to look at, and shift from figure to ground in the figure-ground combination! I think echo quilting would be effective, where it works.

I like the heart, since your title is I love Detroit. What a creative way to incorporate the Detroit skyline into the edge of a key. Pam Clark
ReplyDeleteMeena I love this piece. Very creative using the skyline as the key works. I like the heart.
ReplyDeleteGreat concept! How very creative. Given that your focal point appears to be the skyline,I'm not sure it matters what shape you use.

Great concept! How very creative. Given that your focal point appears to be the skyline,I'm not sure it matters what shape you use. I tend to think your quilting should be fairly simple. How about very close echo quilting in the background and vertical line within the key itself.

This is a very graphic, eye catching design. A very clever way to incorporate two images into one! I agree with the vertical quilting for the buildings, maybe echoing their shape in the black key area above them. You did a wonderful job with the challenge.
ReplyDeleteMeena, This is terrific. I really like how you combined the image of the skyline I remember so well with the key. I agree with the suggestions about very simple lines and echo stitching for the skyline. What a lovely tribute to the city.
