I roamed around on one of the poster sites until I came upon "The Sower" by Van Gogh. I love the contrast of the size of the tree and the sun so I made my imitation Van Gogh. My little work (approx. 7" x 9") was fun to put together. After some thread-painting and quilting I added some hints of clouds and the circle around the sun with watercolor crayons. As always, I welcome your comments.
What a great interpretation of the painting. You picked great fabrics. What if you added some darker colors to the tree to make it higher contrast like the original.
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda - That's an excellent idea. In fact I think I want to add more thread work in the foreground. What I did sort of blended away rather than adding to a feeling of depth.

The little swirly quilting is what draws me into your quilt. The colors are wonderfully intense, but the tree blends in a bit too much with the ground. I agree with Linda that darkening the tree would add more needed contrast.

You have done a lovely job interpreting this painting with excellent fabric choices that capture much of the feel of the original. I think the suggestion of stepping up the contrast of the tree is probably a good one. Really nice work! I enjoyed seeing it.
