"Pueblos Bonitos"

I have chosen to do 'shapes' for my series. A couple of years ago Idid a series of postcards using shapes as the theme. I've always intended to do a real series...now is my chance :)

For this challenge I am using squares..."Pueblos Bonitos"...

My complimentary colors are orange-yellow and blue (as on JoenWolfrom's color cards #11 and #23).

My quilt is mainly horizontal, with a little diagonal thrown in. The background is organza fused over hand dyed cotton then randomly cut and pieced back together with two different colored hand dyed strips inserted. The squares are cotton with organza and chiffon overlays. Variegated rayon threads.

Comments welcomed :) as always

Cherie

  5. Hi Cherie - This piece is so attractive to me - the simplicity, the use of color and transparency, the curvy lines. And the name is wonderfully descriptive. There is not a thing I would change.

  7. This piece is so well balanced. It looks effortless, but I know it isn't easy to put each square in exactly the right place. I love this piece!

  10. The above says it all Cherie. What a 'comely' piece, so well executed. Thank you for sharing your technique. I love this style of quilting, one would think I would make it my own, but so far have to go more realistic. I love the colors, everything about it.
Well done and I am looking forward to more in this series.

  11. Cherie,
I like the flow of this and the range of values. The lightest blue and orange-yellow give this more life. I love the ghost look of those overlays too.

  12. Very well done - great movement - the fact you used more than the pure colors is quite dynamic.

  13. Hi Cherie, I like the shapes...even though they are all the same size, they don't look too uniform...there's actually alot of interest. I think it must be the variety of values, shades, tones, pure hues, tints as well as the transparent ghosting of the shapes. Very effective. Simple shapes and lines but striking and interesting! There a sense of quiet aliveness.
    Great job,
    Cynthia

  14. Hi Cherie,

I really like this piece. I think the uniform shapes and sizes give the work a really nice rhythm, while the sheers add a lot of interest. Of course I love the color scheme! Great job.
