I feel the life of the penguin is in a state of being fractured by the climate change therefor the title. This quilt is 18"x24". I used cotton silk, velvet and sheers to create this piece. I was very frightened of the challange and had decided not to do it because I was so confused. Now I am so glad I decided to give it a go. My colors are yellow, orange and purple. I'm afraid my camera doesn't see colors quite true. His head is really all black not black and green and his wings are lavender and purple not blue. Great challenge - Thak you.

Yes! This is just wonderful! There is so much dimension in this piece. Your penguin just pops forward. Your fabrics and quilting add such texture and interest to both the bird and the background. The fracture pieces radiate out from the penguin adding importance to him. Terrific job!

I am attracted to the golds and yellows on the body, and also the white background repeating the beak shape, and extending across the piece. Glad you took the challenge! One of my favorites.

The background helps the penguin stand out. Interesting how you got the shading with the different fractures.
ReplyDeleteI love your piece! I'm so glad you decided to give this challenge a try after all. You fractured well and used your colors well. The quilting and bead embellishment really adds to this superb piece.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great piece. The penguin really stands in the foreground, and the fracturing adds to the whole. Love it.
ReplyDeleteI really like your color choices and the fracturing. I would say you really hit this challenge dead on. Love bit of purple in the background, the the 'shaft of lift' that ends with green on his head. A very pleasing beautiful composition.
ReplyDeleteCool - pun totally intended. Is it appliqued? Love the different types of fabric used and you quilting is very fine.
ReplyDeleteHi Pat, I love this piece! The brilliant splashes of color with the near neutral background is so eye-catching. Wonderful composition and use of color. I wouldn't change a thing, except it's address (mine)
