Squadron On Patrol

I have chosen blue, green and violet for my colors. The fractured background uses many different types of fabrics including lame, holographics, velvets, silks, cottons etc. It was done from a smll section of a photo of a leaf magnified many times then fractured. It makes me think of a high mountain pass.

My theme is a squadron of wingnuts on patrol. The challenge did say "anything with wings" right? (ha ha). The wingnuts are freely floating, attached only across the tops of their wings creating shadows as they "fly the mountain passes". They are constructed using Timtex with a deep charcoal lame covering both sides, accents of silver lame and satin stiched edges using dark silver Glitter (Superior Threads).
It measures 19"x28"
A terrific challenge Jan, so much fun!

  3. I have been trying to think of something other than fairies, birds and butterflies with wings. Love it!!

  4. Anything with wings it was since I knew there were a lot more items out there with wings than what we usually think of and I had not thought of wing nuts but I do use them. Great use of fabrics and fracturing.

  6. Love your wing-nuts! They really do look like they are flying. I think the idea of having them flow into the borders creates a good effect and adds interest to the piece. What a fun interpretation of this challenge.

  12. Hi Cherie, How fun is this! I smell a series based on hardware doing funny things. Great job on the construction. The perspective is really good and how you broke up the background adds so much interest

    :-) Suggestions anyone?
The background fracture was part of an exercise from a Katie P M class I took. It was only a vague line drawing until now...it was truly a challenge, but a great learning device.

  15. This is my favorite of all the work I've seen so far in this challenge. Fun subject - feeling of flying is very effective - colors - carrying the fracture into the border as well as the background -the repetition with variation of size - the curviness of the fracturing - the neutral contrast of the main objects versus the brighter background. EVERYTHING about this is fantastic!
