What can I say? This is four leaves assembled in a rotary-style layout. Each leaf has been split vertically and diagonally for veins. The background is where I got a bit more creative. I first fused a small part of a very loosely knitted scarf to a piece of upholstery fabric, then placed the dissected leaves. Next, I fused some cheesecloth stretched taut over the leaves. After stitching around the leaves I cut the cheesecloth off of two of the leaves, then stitched in the details. It measures 9"x9".

The distressed cheese cloth adds a lot of texture. Did you dye/paint the cheese cloth or is it white?

ReplyDeleteThe texture is a wonderful element that gives a lot of depth to this piece. The only thing I would like to see is possible some overlapping of the leaf shapes to give the illusion of even more depth. Great use of unusual fabrics.

Ann, This is a fun piece. I agree with many of the others who have commented that it feels like it needs a little something more - maybe overlapping leaves, maybe some additional smaller leaves around the outside of those already in the center...

ReplyDeleteThe texture is both a scarf and cheesecloth, which is white, no paint. My main shape is the leaf. I have since made several variations of this quilt, each with a new approach. I do think that adding the overlapping leaves will liven the whole thing up.

I rather like this in its simplicity... after all, a 4 leaf clover is just that. The texture is wonderful... I can't imagine how you fused the cheesecloth...but you did... If I had to suggest something, I am thinking maybe in the center... maybe a juxtaposition of the colors you used...
