Penetration

I chose triangles for my shape. It is definitely geometric but not a common quilt square. I drew one triangle then just kept adding until I had a shape I liked. The fabrics are all metallics from my stash. The way the purple penetrates the copper center gives it its name. I pieced it then quilted on either side of the seams to accentuate the shape. I overcast the edges and added gold braid to finish it. A very different and fun challenge for me. Thank You

  1. Pat! You've discovered one of the joys of working with shapes.... you've used triangles but they are all different triangles! Your use of metallics is so effective here, and the deep purple adds depth. Great choice of fabrics and placement. I can see this framed on black or deep purple. Great job!

  2. This is lovely, Pat. So glittery and shiny. Your colors work well together and the shapes form a super piece perfect for the Christmas season. I like the way you finished the edge, too. What are your plans for this piece and how big is it?

  3. Sorry to have omitted the size. It is 29x29. I have no plans for it but just to keep it around and enjoy it. Thanks for the comments. I really appreciate them. I think your right and black is what belongs around it.

  4. Pat: I love the shine and how the patterns of the fabric interplay with each other. It's nice that you worked in a large size in this challenge. Beautiful piece.

  5. This is a great Christmas piece. The shine and glitter will brighten up your day, even when it is cold and overcast outside (like today). Very cheerful.

  7. Love your light and dark placement on this one. It makes the piece look almost 3D. Traditional concept but a very non-traditional feel. Great use of "shiny stuff"---we can always use a bright spot somewhere and this would bring a smile to my face every time I looked at it.

  9. Pat, This definitely reminds me why I love "traditional" quilts. I find the geometry fascinating and the possible designs endless. Your use of metallics give a very definite modern feel to an exciting design.

  10. Jan, love it, reminds me of a kaleidoscope with all the sparkle and colors. The addition of the purple is neat. What a great design using only triangles.

  11. Lovely fabrics. Have you considered another one with a mix of metallic and boring fabrics?

  12. I think it's a lovely piece as is. I wouldn't mount it on black. The purple triangles really add movement to the piece. Good Job!
