Into the Woods by Cynthia Ann Morgan
The atmosphere I was going for was a mysterious, moody, misty, slightly scary walk in the woods. This is a small piece 9 x 10" using hand dyed fabrics and raw edge applique. What do you think?
Cynthia
I'm not sure I would have seen it as a forest without your description, but after reading the words, it does capture the atmosphere of mystery. I like the simplicity and raw edges of it-am trying to come up with something simple also and its too beautiful outside after Irene to be inside stitching.
This piece definitely reads "mystery", "gloom" but also peace. The design and perspective of the trees leads the viewer into the depth of the piece. I wonder whether toning down or greying the value of the light tree on the left might pull you in further into the woods. Sue Church
Thank you in advance for your comments and greetings!

ReplyDeleteI think you definitely achieved the mood you were seeking. Very mysterious and moody. I like it!
ReplyDeleteLove it Cynthia, it is very mysterious and foggy in there. The colors are wonderful I'd say you certainly captured the mood.
ReplyDeleteI've been in that forest! I especially love your 'leafy' ground cover. Misty and brooding...great job...

What evil lurks beyond the mist?
ReplyDeleteWhat mystery to reveal?
The woods they call me,
I must go forth,
Oh may my heart be still.
Definitely you have created a mood! Well done Cynthia.
A great composition, building on the features in the hand-dye. It really leads you into the forest and totally captures the mood. Great job!
ReplyDeleteVery cool, I love the color. The light in the trunk of the tree is pale and shadowy or is it an apparition? hmmm
ReplyDeleteThe colors and mist make me want to walk right into the picture and contemplate. I want to see how far this forest goes.

I love the mood created with the purple tones. I agree with the others, it feels like you could walk right into this forest.
ReplyDeleteThis piece reminds me of the Frost poem, the Road Not Taken. It's very mysterious, and you did create a misty atmosphere.
ReplyDeleteI think it is beautiful and you met your goal.
