Costa Rica Sunset by Cynthia Morgan
Here's my little study of light inspired by a photo of a sunset in Costa Rica
This has a great abstract quality, and the stitching capitalises on the shapes. The reflections work especially well. I think the lower grey cloud reflection is an excellent choice of fabric. The two upper grey clouds seem to compete for attention with the black hillsides, so I wonder if a tulle overlay would work there?
The simplicity of the shapes in this piece is very pleasing to the eye. Your use of color and luminosity is very well done. My eye moves directly to the lighter areas and then moves into the background. Is that metallic thread twinkling in the quilting? A nice job!
Thank you for your comments! I agree with Julia...the gray clouds are massive and it would look better if they were broken up with some texture or shadows
Cynthia, I really like the effective use of light and the reflections in your piece, but I especially like the way you quilted it. Very pleasing to look at. Sandi

ReplyDeleteI also like your choice of colors making this seem more abstract. The reflections are very effective.
