Silhouettes of Indian Dancers
Auspicious numbers in the Indian culture end with one..11, 21, 51, 101, 501 etc.
The silhouettes emphasize
the form and movement of the hands, feet, clothes and even the hair of the eleven
dancers. Om is the text in the quilt.
I'd love to see a larger photo of your piece. The stitching looks impressive and I'd like to see it better. Your dancers have such a lovely sense of movement. Also, it looks like your placement of them is in a spiral from the bottom right (closest dancer image to the center (furthest away dancer image). Is that just what I imagine I see or did you have an intention to do that? BTW, can you tell me where the text is in the quilt? Nice job Meena!
The yellow background is wonderful. Are the figures done in reverse applique?

ReplyDeleteThe figures are appliques that are fused..They were designed in Make the Cut software and cut with my laser cutter.
Thisl cvhallange seems to be about grace and movement as well as numbers and I feel you have captured it beautifully.

A wonderful treatment of the dancers, with the feel of India in each one, which I also see in colors and the architecture of the arch.
