Black Hole
15 x 20
This has been a fun challenge producing great results! I chose to do a black hole, no particular one as I was working with colors I had on hand. Background fabric is commercial. For the different materials (black hole), I used Angelina Fibers and painted, twisted cheesecloth. Both materials/techniques are new to me. Embellishment is beads in the center of the black hole and some metallic thread quilting.
Thanks Cherie for a fun challenge and great websites for inspiration. Comments are welcome and appreciated.

This is wonderful Pam. What a great idea to use the cheesecloth. What did you use to paint it? The Angelina has such a misty ethereal feeling and the beads are just the right touch. Great background too, did you paint it as well?
ReplyDeleteNice work...
Cherie
I really like the movement and colors in this piece. I like that you used cheesecloth for your spiral. I wonder what it would look like if you spread out some of the cheesecloth to create some variation in the spiral?
ReplyDeleteThis is the theme that I am planning to do. Will probably be late cause I had two other deadlines. I like how you used that bead for the black hole. It is a nice focal point. The background fabric is awesome.
ReplyDeleteHi Pam, this feels like a celebration in space...dancing with color and texture...very fun. I wouldn't change a thing. Great job

Cherie,
ReplyDeleteI painted the cheesecloth with Lumiere Pearl White but didn't like the look so over painted with Dye-Na Flow Claret. The background fabric is a commercial Batik. That would be a fun painting project and will have to keep that in mind.

Hi Pam,
ReplyDeleteYour background batik is fantastic, great choice. I also like the way you colored the cheesecloth to make your spiral. What if more quilting was added? It might just add even more interest to this lovely piece. Nice job on this challenge.
Hello Pam, Great use of cheesecloth. I have never tried it. Is it easy to use? Your eye surely is drawn into the black hole by the beads. Nice work

Hi Pam - Your choice of fabric was great. The way you spiraled the cheesecloth leads us right into the black hole. Congratulations on interpreting the challenge so well.
ReplyDeleteVery the angelina works wonders for the lightening of the batik. Now if it were me I'd further embellish the yarn (?) with beads.
ReplyDeleteI considered embellishing the cheesecloth but thought it might be "over the top". Will reconsider and play with that suggestion as well as additional quilting. I tend to under quilt as that is my weak point.

It shows that you had fun doing this. Your use of the twisted cheesecloth is effective. The beads in the center look great. I enjoy looking at this piece very much.
