Meet Miss Double Tail

Here she is in all her glory...thoroughly enjoyed working on this one and listening to her wants. All that is left to do is to put a sparkle (highlight) in her eyes and sew the eyes on the seahorse and fish.

Blue Jean Journal

I am taking an online journal class with Sue B. (By the way this class has been great.) You can check some of the journals that have been produced by the class at:

I dug into my hubby's closet and pulled out a pair of jeans that were un-wearable in public...and begged for them. I cut them up and looked for areas that didn't have holes. I decided that I would make a journal cover for my Friday Challenge.

I was able to use both back pockets and the button.

After making the journal I was fixing to trim off all of the frayed threads...but then I decided that they added to the over all design. I did add a few choice phrases to dress the journal up a little.

Best of all I still have a few hunks of jean fabric to use in another project.

Spam by Ann Morrell

I really thought that I wouldn't find just the right SPAM message. I fell in love with oodles of them...but just couldn't come up with an image that I felt I could really get into....until I came across:

From Now On Your Small Breasts Need Not Be The Cause Of Your Embarrassment.

After seeing this...I got my image and also got the image of the product that they might be trying to sell.

My camera is on it's last hurrah...and is slowly dying so sorry about the picture quality.

Can you locate that magic product that might make those breasts increase in size?

Here's a hint:

That's right...Little Blue Boob Chicken Feed.

This was a fun challenge.

Stepping Out Side the Box

I wanted to think outside the box on this challenge. So it took me several days to come up with a concept. For the Fire part I focused on red fire-y hot peppers, and for the Ice part I focused on frozen on the vine peppers that got caught in an ice storm. My husband didn't understand my piece and suggested that "I might want to stay in my box that I was trying to crawl out of. He was afraid that no one would get my piece. We laughed about it, and I thought about not sharing it all. But the more I looked at it ...I saw what I was trying to express so...am warning you now...look at it for awhile before thinking..."What was she trying to do."

There are two layers to the piece....the back layer is the ice layer. It is done in icey blues, pretty clever hun? The top layer represent the fire layer....and it is done in bright reds. (Another clever move on my part, don't you think?)

I used my Shiva sticks and watercolor crayons to shadow areas on the piece. All stitching was done with free motion.

Challenge 15- Ann Morrell

This challenge was a real challenge for me...I decided that I would take the original photo into Painter 4 and crop it and alter the colors...I eliminated certain features and emphasized other features. Then I printed it out on cloth. I then got out my watercolor crayons and pencils and started adding shadows and colors. I then layered it on batting and did free motioning stitching all over. The piece is the size of a journal quilt.

Floating Mermaid by Ann Morrell

I probably went "overboard" on using my embellishments but had lots of fun using my hand dyed yarns, my watercolor crayons, and my Embellisher. I was also able to use some of my fancy stitches on my sewing machine. (I used a lot of glitter.....which does cause a bad reflection in flash on camera....sorry about that.)

When I read the challenge, I instantly saw a mermaid taking a nap, wrapped in seaweed, as she is being rocked to sleep by two sea turtles. I tried to use the background fabric stitching to also show movement as well as the seaweed wrapped around the mermaid being pulled by the waves. I also tried to twist the mermaid's body to show the pull of the waves.

If These Walls Could Talk.... Ann Morrell

Here is my first challenge. I had lots of fun doing it. I used a technique that I had been wanting to do for awhile. I took two photos, merged them together, turn them into a painting, printed it out on cloth and then thread painted it. I also used my Embellisher and watercolor crayons.

I live in a small little beach community called Grayton Beach. I use to come here as a child, and was lucky enough to return after retiring and make my home here. Our community is made up of million dollar beach homes, and smaller beach cabins that have been here for years. My beach "shack" actually exists and has been here for over 87 years. It just got a new tin roof. It is not on the beach so I "picked it up" and moved it over to a sand dune over looking our beautiful beach to make my piece. Can you imagine the stories this house could tell if the walls could talk.

Here are the two photos that were merged for my piece.
