Another Annual Resolution!

I loved looking at past challenges. This quilt was inspired by Challenges #77 Touchy-Feely  and #55 Dance and Movement.

Tried a new technique with threads from a book, Stitch Draw  by Rosie James.
It was designed and cut in Make the Cut software. Materials include net, trims, and threads.

I did two versions ..which one do you like better?

Count your Smiles!

Designed this quilt using a free bar code generator, Make the Cut software and Photoshop Elements Filters.

The top block actually reads Count your Smiles! with a QR scanner.
The center block was created with a spherize filter.
The bottom block was created with a line drawing filter.

The borders have UPC bar codes that spell the text.

Would love suggestions on how to quilt it.

The Shell Game

The quilt is a result of three different challenges and will definitely become larger. The paper dolls represent the illegals at our border.

The "transparent" government is playing a shell game hiding the illegals across the country in order to "protect" their privacy. But they don't inform the American citizens and communities who will pay for the illegals' housing, healthcare, education and other financial support.

If the illegals want to experience the American dream why not come here through the legal process and earn American citizenship instead of breaking and entering?

A Nurturing Grandmother

A Nurturing Grandmother

As I await the birth of my first grandchild any day now, I aspire to be as nurturing as my own grandmother who sacrificed a lot and taught me so much. Most family and friends have told me having grandchildren is much more fun than having kids. I cannot wait to take on my new role as a loving grandmother!

Materials and Techniques

Heart body, head, arms and lips designed in Make the Cut software and cut with my electronic cutter and embellished with lock washers for the eyes.
The background: acrylic and metallic paints, gold mica flakes, glass bead gel on canvas

Just When The Caterpillar Thought The World Was Over...

The quilt is my fable of the butterfly's life cycle with a moral. The leaf, leaf with eggs, the eaten leaf that feeds the caterpillar, Chrysallis and emerging butterfly. The circle represents the world and the bar code is to count blessings!
It was designed in Make the Cut software. A circle and bar code were Boolean joined. Node editing from lines into curves provides a path for caterpillar to transform into a butterfly. It was cut with my electronic cutter and free motion quilted.

I Love Detroit

Using negative space, the key emphasizes the Detroit skyline, including the Renaissance Center, the Penobscot building and the Ambassador Bridge among others.

It was designed in Make the Cut software cut out with my electronic cutter.

I would love suggestions on how to quilt it.
I designed it with two versions. One has a circle for the keyhole and one with a heart...which one do u think would work better?

Feedback would be very much appreciated.
Thanks

Detroit Skyline

Detail:
A photo from a cruise on the Detroit River is in the center. I learned how to apply special effects to it  in a software program, Fabric Studio and printed it on fabric. It was hand quilted with silver thread

Here is a second version. This time I did not tile it prior to the special effects.

Window to the Creative Process

Creativity is represented by a beaded lame sun.

A Brainstorm (heated Tyvek/ actetate) results in lists, risks and making mistakes.

Mountains represent lots of resources, art inspirations and design principles.

New growth (plants and light bulb) represents new ideas.

Refining these ideas and using tools like stork scissors, rotary cutter, and the sewing machine result into making new quilts.

The fiberglass window screen has buttons for knobs.

The creative process is a rollercoaster ride that is enhanced by a relaxed state of mind.

Silhouettes of Indian Dancers

Auspicious numbers in the Indian culture end with one..11, 21, 51, 101, 501 etc.

The silhouettes emphasize the form and movement of the hands, feet, clothes and even the hair of the eleven dancers. Om is the text in the quilt.
