Burlap and Velor

So, I am a few months late!

I am working to get caught up on past challenges but did meet the time limit. I created this quilt in one night, but it took 2 days to add the binding.

13" wide x 16" tall

Fabrics: burlap and velor for the challenge of working with something you haven't used before, and 100% cotton quilters cottons.

While I must say this isn't the greatest quilt I have ever made, I do like the color, I am pleased with my machine quilting, and I had fun making it! That is the point right? Fun.

There are some things I would change, like my binding is not the greatest (binding is my greatest weakness), and I cut off part of a circle when I added the binding (on the bottom right- I know you are going to look now).

It was a good exercise and it felt good to lock myself in my sewing room for a while and just create!

Discharge experiement

This quilt was created by discharging brown Kona fabric with bleach. The tree was then raw edge appliqued on the background.

No Possibility

Size: 10 1/4" x 7 3/4"

Inspiration: "There was no possibility of taking a walk that day." The first line to Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte.

Artist's Statement: I originally posted this without my statement, but I do think one is needed. I chose the line because due to undiagnosed health issues, there are days I can not walk. (The doctors are running all kinds of tests to figure out why though) My quilt represents many things to me...

Spirals- dizzy spells
Cloud like shapes- confusion
The orbs- floaters in my vision
The stick- a cane which I may have to use one day
The blue orb- the light I see before I have seizures
The railing is what I must hold on to to walk a lot of days

So this quilt is abstract, but is symbolic of my health struggles.

Thank you for all the comments on my quilt thus far! It is wonderful to get feedback from other fiber artist so that I may grow as an artist as well.

Autumn's Transition

11 1/2" tall x 9" wide

Fused applique with heavy machine quilting

This quilt was designed to show the transitions of Autumn. The first tree represents early Fall with mostly green leaves that are starting to turn red, yellow, and orange. The second tree is mid Fall, with mostly brown leaves with highlights of the other colors, some leaves on the ground. The tree in the background represents late fall with its nearly barren branches, brown, green, and orange leaves at its base.

I have added the dimension to the quilt by showing the depth of the scene. I used 3 different greens to create rolling hills and added purple mountains in the background.

Things I would change~ I didn't have enough time to machine satin stitch the appliques like I would have liked to. It would be a better quilt with finished applique pieces.

Also, my binding is not even around all the edges.

To my critique-ers~ I love the nice "that is pretty" comments, but please do suggest a couple things that would improve the piece! I have tough skin and can take it.

Thanks for looking!
