Comedy/Tragedy

Sorry for the bad picture but I have a new program and can't seem to make it work for cropping.  I saw a picture of this small comedy/tragedy block and fell in love with it .  I knew it would look good in blue and white so here it is.  It always makes me happy to see these masks.

Sowing Circles

While flying over Colorado I saw the irrigation circles and immediately knew I needed to make it into a quilt.  This one measures 22"x24".  It is machine appliqued and quilted - no fancy techniques.

Alice in Wonderland

A friend of mine was sketching for fun and when I saw this sketch I immidiately thought of  Alice in wonderland.  It is made with commercial and hand dyed fabric.  It is hard to see the quilting in the photo but it is there.  The "hole" is paper pieced and the tree is raw edge applique. The piece measures 7x17".It is fun to be back in a creative space.

Rainbow Owl

I saw a picture of a photoshopped rainbow owl and immediatly wanted to make it. This seemed like the perfect time to try it. The background is hand dyed fabric. The owl has knitted sweater parts, yarn, lace,and burned sheer organza . This was a fun challange - thank you. Oh, it measures 24x29"

Three

Three seems to be an ongoing number  recurring in my life.  Three husbands, three children, three homes and 13 grandchildren as well as three major job changes.  In my astrological numbers 3 is prevalent followed by 6 and 9 so I decided to use three for this piece.  The leaves are a commercial stencil overlaid with sparkle tulle and thread traced.  the background is hand dyed fabric.  It measures 15 x 27".  The sheer look of the leaves represents the amorphous. quality of life.  Thank you for a good challenge.

Falling leaf

When I am falling asleep and fall it is a gentle slow descent.  It feels like a leaf falling from a tree.  This tree is all thread painted.  The first border is hand dyed.

A Coven of Coffee

Finding a picture of a coffee cup made of beans made me think of a coven of coffee.  It is all raw edge applique , shadowed with shiva paint sticks and touched up with puffy paint.  The cauldron is beaded lace.  It measures 29 x33".

Cactus Flower

I already entered my psychedelic garden piece but went ahead and finished the cactus flower anyway.  It is painted with colored pencils, overlaid with sheer petals and has a very ethereal look in person.  It is hard to get the transparency look on film.  It was taken from a cactus in my garden with the shadows just right to give it the wonderful colors.

Psychedelic Garden

This is my Psychedelic garden.  I would say it is op-art genre.  The flowers are folded and stitched the leaves are raw edge applique.  The edge is finished with eyelash yarn.  It measures 14" x 16".

You Make Me Dizzy Miss Lizzy

I chose to do "You Make Me Dizzy Miss Lizzy".  The backgkround is hand dyed. The dancers are printed, the music notes are beads.  It was fun but very challenging to try to depict more emotion in  color and movement than the actual representation of figures and places.  Good mind opener.  Thanks!

Cavorting Trees

This picture of trees fascinated me and encouraged me to try the same thing.  It is thread painted, painted with watercolor pencil and sheva sticks, appliqued and quilted.  It measures 10x14".

nature at peace

When doing a general dying of some fabric one piece came out looking to me like a swamp so I decided to take advantage of it and make it into a wall quilt. With stitching, roving, rawedge applique, and decolorant for the birds I brought it to life. The sun shining through the trees is stitched in hologram thread and is very shiny but doesn't show in the photo.

This piece measures 36x42.

I took the lines from a piece of tin cieling tile. I used a hand dyed cotton and embellished with rickrack and yarn adding buttons for the dots on the centers

Desert Sunset

My son lives in the high desert of Utah. He took a photo on his way home from work and sent it to me to use for this dramatic sky. The roads there are really this deserted alot of the time.

This measures 30x23. The sky is painted, overlayed with an orange sheer and quilted. The rest is pieced and quilted. It was a good lesson on perspective s well as weather. Thanks Tobi.

I took a picture of a flower in my garden because it had one white petal amongst all the red. The light gave interesting color variations to the petals so I felt it fit the challenge. It is 20x20. Machine quilted and raw edge appliqued

Harlequin in Picasso colors

The picture I chose for color was Picassos jester and young Harlequine. I thought it was an interesting balance of colors not often seen used by modern day artists. I took the harlequin pattern for my piece and made a table cover for my Kitchen table attempting to maintain the color balance in the painting. I haven't quilted it yet but will this week. Thank you ahead for any comments or crititiques.

Ray of hope

From the smallest candle shines a ray of hope we have heard throughout our lives. At this time of disaster all rays of hope I am sure are welcome. This piece is raw edge and many overlays of fabric - simple and direct.

I took Jans suggestion and added quilt lines radiating from the white.

FINALLY! Solitude

The ultimate solitude seemed somehow appropriate to me. Seems its the only way solitude may be attained for some of us. I guess I am just in a bazaar mood or something. This piece is fused,satin stitched and quilted. What a blast!

Green Ireland

To me, as I recall my trip to Ireland I remember green, green, green, rain, rain, rain and celtic ruins. So I chose a green background with a celtic knot butterfly and triskel designs on the border as quilting. This is a small quilt l8x20". Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

Art Deco vest

While looking for ideas I spotted a picture of a stained glass quilt done in an art deco way so I decided to try the technique on a vest. I appliqued the pieces on a black background, satin stitched the edges and lined the vest The pattern is one I made for this application. The front flap can be worn up or down. All comments are very welcome .
