Liquified Scotland

I posted Liquefied Scotland as my challenge work for number 54. I used Photoshop to make the circles, using the liquefy filter. I tried to quilt on the lines -- not so good at machine quilting. Need practice! Rosemary in St. Louis

Challenge 51 rothequilter

I really got into this challenge. I already posted a quilt made of squares. My daughter suggested spheres for this challenge, and I decided to do a second one. I don't like fusing or machine applique very much, so I needle turned all the circles. I quilted with 2 strands of embroidery floss, all circles, except for the border. It seemed to need some straight lines mimicking the design in the fabric. I had beaded some disks and turquoise seed beds, but after I finished beading, I decided that the disks took away from the effect I wanted. a square deal challenge 51

My quilt Square Deal was made for a class I am taking with Jude Hill. Tyhe quilt is woven, and 2 areas have smaller squares woven into the base. I'm probably fudging a bit, as some of my squares are rectangles, but--isn't a square a rectangle? Rosemary in St Louis

Mysterious Tree

This is my entry for the haiku challenge. I made the tree at the Thursday meeting of my art group. One of the members had taken a class with Nancy Zieman and taught us her technique. We used lots of different machine stitches to create the tree and the ground. When I got home I used a piece of batik and machine quilted it. I mounted the tree on the background, and added a sun. I couched the rays by hand and sewed on trims on the edges instead of binding the quilt.

My haiku probably leaves a lot to be desired, but the challenge was fun. Rosemary in St. Louis.

I had an old picture taken by my Dad in the Pacific during World War II, showing a number of parachutes hanging up in a hanger. This was my inspiration. I crazy pieced my background on top of batting using the sewing machine. Then I chose a number of dark blue fabrics, one muted gold, and 2 gold fabrics. I hand sewed them onto the background. I added strips of fabric at the bottom of each element to suggest the lines. I pillow cased a facing to the piece. I thought I would bead the piece, using navy and a few crystal beads on the dark fabric, and gold ones on the gold fabric, but when I finished the piece I kind of liked it as it is.

I couldn't get the quilt picture in the post, so I will put it in the next one. Can't you tell I'm a newbie? Rosemary in St. Louis
