A Plethora of Grapes

I went through many ideas before coming up with this one.  My piece is done on canvas and is approximately 16"X 20".  The grapes are made from a combination of fabric, deli paper and watercolor crayons and then stitched.  The big leaf on the upper left side is made from a paper bag and the leaf in the lower right hand corner from deli paper.  The small little stems are painted with acrylic paint and water color pencil.  Since I want to hang this as an art piece I backed my piece with felt to frame it, instead of using stretcher bars as was my original plan.
Thanks Ann for the great challenge!

Zentangle - Pen & Ink

Zentangles are right up my alley.  I have been doing Zentangles for the last 2-years and have thoroughly enjoyed creating designs and patterns.  On the other hand, text has been more difficult for me and so, this was a real challenge for me to create.  I have, however, liked the fact that I was pushed beyond my boundaries.  Thank you for the challenge.  Size approximately 9-1/2" x 8-1/2".  All critiques, criticisms and comments welcome.

Amigos

I was on vacation when this new challenge was posted.  I did not quite understand "Gestalt".  This is my idea of gestalt.  I did not want to see what others had posted until after I did mine, because I did not want to be influenced by what others had done.  I think I'm pretty close.  The finish quilt will be approximately 25"X17".  I don't know why, but the true colors of the quilt is not coming through.  All comments, critiques and criticisms welcome.

Double PinWheels

The piece is 14-1/2" X 14-1/2". All I got done after all this time was the quilt top. Too many things going on all at once, but still wanted to participate in the challenge. After putting this together, it resembled, to me, a Coat of Arms type emblem. All criticisms, critiques and comments welcome.

Untitled

Although, I am posting last this was done the week of the challenge deadline. I just never got around to the posting part of it. This was a fun challenge. I'd like to do three more and put them together. I think it would give it a totally different effect. Critiques, criticisms and comments always welcome.

Yiddish Wisdom

This picture, was my inspiration for the quilt I made for the challenge and comes from the book "Yiddish Wisdom".

The quilt is approximately 15" X 15" and in no way completed yet. I still have to quilt and bind.

I hate posting a quilt that is not completed within the one week timeline, because I feel that I am cheating. But, this time I am making an exception to "my" rule because this next week is crazy for me. I have classes all day on Monday, Wednesday's I have my Toastmasters Meeting and a lunch date and Thursday and Friday and Saturday I'm in a training. PLUS! I have a research paper to do for one of my classes. No way will I have have this completed this week. I just wanted to get it posted and out of the way, so I would not have to worry about it later.

I may or may not add French Knots for the flowers. Let me know what you think.I hope you will all forgive me for rushing this through. All comments, critiques and criticisms welcome.

Winter Wonderland

I made this little quilt, 13" X 15" quilt, for my Challenge 60, Atmosphere & Mood. I hope it gives you the feeling of cold and winter. Even the tree is without its leaves. I put it on the outer borders to give a more 3-D look.

Fallen Leaf

My inspiration, a fallen leaf. The wind blows and a leaf falls from the tree and into the water below. It stays there floating alone and in peaceful quietness.

The quilt is 14"X14". The leaf is real, found one day while at Laguna Beach, CA. It was a brown, dry, dead leaf. I painted it to look more like an Autumn Leaf, then coated it with a hardener. I chose the background fabric, because of the shadows from overhanging branches. There is another piece the shape of the leaf to act as a shadow underneath the leaf.

Circle of Life

This is coming very, very late, but I feel better late than never and I got it in before the next challenge. Barely! This Thistle goes from new born bud to one that has lived out it's life, ergo "Cirlce of Life". The Thistle is Scotland's national flower. The noble plant is the namesake of Scotland's ancient order of chivalry known as "The Order of the Thistle". I thoroughly enjoyed doing this quilt and yes each petal was sewn down individually.

Abstract Art Deco

Well, I did not think I was going to make it in time to post to the challenge. I didn't start this until Wednesday, because I really couldn't think of what to do. I did not want to submit an incomplete quilt. I looked online to see what could inspire me, but nothing did, so I threw in a little of this and a little of that and came up with my Abstract Art Deco Quilt. It measures 14" X 16" and I used only fabrics I already had in my stash. The fabrics were mainly Fairy Frost. It was my husband's idea to do the black and white border to look like an old film reel and I think it really added to the quilt. All comments and critiques welcome.

Nature's Rhythm

I'm not sure if I got the challenge right, but this is what I came up with. The quilt is approximately 20" X 20". It is raw edged and the Angel Fish is hand applique. I did some quilting, but it doesn't show very well. I may undo and redo. All comments welcome.

Spinning Pinwheels

Dance & Movement

For this challenge I used a tradition quilt pattern. I did not have a pattern only the picture, so this was a double challenge for me. The quilt is approximately 25-1/2" X 40-1/2". The picture doesn't do it justice. You have to squint your eyes a bit when you look at the picture, then you can see the spinning pinwheels. I have not quilted it yet and decided not to add any borders to the quilt. I am really enjoying doing these challenges. I've also decided that I will only use fabrics that I already have in my stash for these challenges. All comments welcome.

Celtic Knot

This is late coming. My first attempt did not work out and so wasted three days. After starting over again, I came up with the Celtic Knot Quilt. Curving a straight line and interweaving the lines in and out and then finally connecting. It was bit of a challenge, but it was lots of fun. It felt like putting a jigsaw puzzle togther. The quilt is 22" X 22". Comments and suggestions are always welcome.

Au Pear

I have been under the weather these past couple of weeks and was not able to do what I wanted in this challenge. I came up with this simple piece because it was fast and easy and didn't take a lot of time. I just did not have the energy to do a lot. This piece is fused and has raw edges. This is not yet quilted and any suggestions for this would be greatly appreciated. I wasn't quite sure how to do this without taking away from the three dimensional look of the piece.

Bloc de couleur

I took the challenge very literally and painted on fabric. I drew the design out first on paper and then transferred it onto multi-purpose fabric. I thought about stitching over the paint, but don't know if that will take from it or add to it. The dimensions are 11-1/2" X 16". I have posted two versions of this and as you can see it doesn't matter which version you look at, it will look like that is the right way, but the first one on the left is the way I see it should be.

Waves

My shape is a wave shape. I used it horizontally and vertically to give it an abstract landscape scene. The quilt is approximately 19" X 27-1/2". The quilt is mostly monochromatic (black/white), but used a gray piece of fabric to give the illusion of trees or bushes. I used beads along the furrows and the moon is from the underside of a yogurt top. There are some hot crystals for the stars, but I think they are hard to see.

Webs & Droplets

Haiku Challenge #50

Sadness in the rain
Remembering the Spider
All comes tumbling down.

If you notice the background, the fabric is split diagonally to represent the rain.
The second challenge was the stitching, so the circles stitched with floss, represent the rings that form after a droplet of rain falls. The spider web in the upper right hand corner is also part of the second challenge stitched with an iridescent floss.
In doing this challenge, I came to realized that I can be very abstract when it comes to art quilts and that sometimes people don't get me.
The rain represents the season.
The spider reminded me of childhood memories, sitting on the window sill looking out the window on a rainy day and the story of the itsy, bitsy spider.
All comes tumbling down, is the rain, the sadness, the spider and sometimes life.

The second picture shows a close-up of the spider web and one of the rings.
