The cardinal at my birdfeeder was the inspiration for this. I fused some hand dyed and some batik and then did some tree branches in the quilting backgrouund which I thought looked kind of snowy. It is 9 1/2 by 11 inches. Elaine Koenig in snowy Nebraska.

Lovely quilting on the background which definitely looks like our snowy Nebraska. Good fracturing on the cardinal and I think fracturing the background with some different colors of gray, blue, white would really make him pop.
I'm so jealous both of your snow and the fact that you get to see cardinals at your feeder. We don't have either here in Southern California. I know I know, we have great weather, but cardinals are so beautiful and I am longing to try 'snow dyeing'...LOL

Elaine, your cardinal really brightens up a dreary day. Your piece really shows this. I like the way you have fractured the cardinal making him part abstract, yet also realistic. Good Job!
Thank you all for your suggestions. I can see that a fractured background would have been a great idea. I would like to try that now.
