Hi all.. when I heard what the last challenge I had to try it. I have only been a member for a few days but, I think I am going to love this group. I love flowers and love abstract. I did this piece in a hurry I guess just to see if I could.. Now that it is done I can be my worst critique.. The flowers got lost in the background fabric and really don't pop... It was fun to practice my free motion quilting and boy do I need the practice. But, all in all it was just fun to make a smaller quilt.. The quilt is 15x11....thanks.. Laura

Hi Laura, I think you are onto something about the flowers popping...maybe adding some brighter and/or bigger petals? I love the binding on this, but it competes with the blooms. If you made them stronger in color or size, that might help...or alternatively, a subtle binding in a lighter shade?

I like it! lot's of movement and the quilting is so neat, I can see the outline of the flowers.
Perhpaps if the background was a different color then the flowers would really pop?

Kudos to you for going forward and doing this so quickly. I think the abstraction was great of the bee balm - I'd love to see a little more contrast of the flowers and the background.

would happen if you got out some of those wonderful fabric paints, or the Tsuekeino[sp??] inks and just did some playing, thread play even for that matter....

Hi Laura, I think it's great that you jumped right in! I agree that your flowers need more *pop* A brighter color would have been nice. I love the flowers in your picture,have never seen any like that, so I have to ask what kind they are.
The flowers are called bee balm... they grow wild in Wisconsin.. and people plant them in their gardens because they attract butterflies and hummingbirds..
