I actually painted this on Feb 3, so guess it isn't a *legal* challenge entry, but haven't been able to do anything for a challenge in a couple of months and since I am pretty sure it fits this month's challenge and was made this month I thought I would share it, I want to play too! LOL
Anyway, this was done using watercolors and is on a piece of 100% cotton fabric, it measures out at 11x19, as you can see it is an oval shape. Haven't decided how to finish this yet, had thought of using it to make a quilted purse, or stitching it down to a larger painted stretched canvas, or simply quilting it as an oval and hanging it. Any ideas?

HI Cathy, it took a bit but I do see the S-curve. I was wondering what you sealed/set the watercolor with? That might make a difference in how you use this as it might not be permanent enough for a purse or wearable??
I haven't seen it in anything, if I decide to make a purse I am going to quilt it and then use iron on vinyl to cover it. I'm thinking I might just use a thin batting, quilt it and frame it though.
Hi Cathy - The orchid is a beauty. The color combinations are very attractive - the yellow background makes the purple pop. I'm not sure I see the S curve - the whole piece has a variety of curves so I guess I'm just dense about separating out the S curve. Very pretty piece - let us know what you end up doing with it.
Hi Cathy, I am having trouble with the S-curve,too.... unless it is the purple and green that go across and through the middle?

be sure to show us what you do with it when it is whatever it will be when it grows up... I see some nice quilt lines on it.

I love you iris, the background really makes it stand out. Perhaps when you quilt the background you could use the quilting lines to lead into and accentuate the "s" curves. The color scheme works very well, and I hope you will post this when it is finished.
Beautiful colors. I look at it and see a wonderful opportunity for lots of thread painting and quilting. One thing you could do is finish it by applying the oval to a rectangular piece, then mounting it on a stretcher frame.

Hi Cathy, hope you get settled in your new place soon so you can play more! I would love to see this piece with heavy texture (quilting, thread work) in the background). Have you considered adding a stem or leaves so the bloom is not floating? This would be very nice in a medallion quilt with the red-violet and yellow green picked up in some pieced sections.

Carol, Yes, that is where I see the s-curve..looking at the flower the s starts at the top of the left hand upper petal,,goes around and uo across the green middle section, down to the tip of the middle section..not a complete curve at the bottom part but pretty close.

Betty, That is the option I am leaning toward, I have some stretched canvases here so am thinking of stitching it directly to the canvas.
