Drought
Continuing on my Branching Out Theme.
So I decided to do far since I'm branching out and focusing less on leaves - so I did my piece Drought - the reason it's named this is because when I was sketching my husband thought the brown was to be a lake - humm - too bad he didn't tell me that sooner.
In order to test the value - I took a picture and printed it out in black and white - so I tossed some fabrics that were too light.
Final size is 13 1/2 x 11 1/2.

You have used color and value well to create depth in your picture. It is very calm and peaceful looking.
Perhaps the closest trees should be brighter and darker to put them closer to the foreground.
Your colors don't seem like drought to me, but more like the colors of a just plowed moist field.
Lisa,
I like the peaceful feel of this quilt. The coloring of the trees give the impression that the sun is striking the back of the forest and that the front of it is in the shade. I agree with Linda that it looks more like a freshly plowed field. It certainly has an earthy feel to it.
Funny that your name came from something your DH said...I have to say it looks like spring to me with the trees just getting their color and newly plowed field. I do see a variety of values for the challenge.
Hi Lisa - I love the simplicity of this piece. I don't see it as drought either. The yellow-greens of the trees say spring to me. My favorite part of the quilt is the mountain on the left - something about its color and the quilting are very pleasing to my eye. Lovely work.
Lisa, I really like you piece, as others have said it has a feel of serenity about it, good job.
Peaceful and serene indeed! I love the sort of abstract quality your quilting adds.

I also feel the serenity of your quilt. What if you varied the size of the trees for more visual impact?
I also like the feel of this piece. Agree with others that it is like spring. You have effectively shown distance with your use of color in the trees. It is good the way it is. However, I am curious about how it would look with an even lighter sky.
Thanks for the input - I'm attempting to think of a new name.
Hi Lisa, Usually I would make a comment about needing more variety in the size, shape and placement of the elements....but it actually works very well in this piece to have the uniformity in the trees. Probably because of the variety of tones, shades and values. The uniformity gives it a stylized look, and a peaceful feel. Good work!
