My quilt looks much more like I intended when it is cropped, but I have included both views here. I layered the various pinks without using a fusible as I like the texture that is achieved this way. The original piece is 9x12, while the cropped portion is 6x5. Pink/red is not a normal palette for me, so this was really a stretch. My theme is circles and was used in the quilting.

I think that the close-up works really well! There's something about cutting off the edges that makes us focus on the middle, which is where all the action is. Very, very nice!

Hi Ann - The full piece is quite nice but I much prefer the cropped one. It adds interest when our minds have to complete the picture. And, as Ren said, it really focuses on the center. Nice work!
Ann,, I agree the close up is wonderful. What a great choice of fabrics you have used in it, it's very 3D.
Great job.
Thanks to all - I am going to trim the piece down to the "correct" size then bind it.
I like the cropped view. It really draws your eye to the nice thread work. Well done.
Love your fabric choices. the print on the petals gives this lots of interest. Nice piece!
The cropped lily is much better. The background on the first is interesting but not as much focus on the second - my eyes aren't drawn to the background but the flower.
Great use of conventional fabrics for the flower. They work well and nothing I would ever think of using.
The background on the original version is a bit distracting. In the cropped version with less of it the dark colors make a nice background.
I would be nice to have more contrast in the center of the flower so the flower stamens would show more.
I was thinking the same thing, Linda. The dark tips are ultrasuede, so I guess the stamens could be something heavy as well. Maybe heavier thread, yarn or felt?
Perhaps the thickness of the stamens isn't mattering as much as the value. The yellow just isn't showing up very well on the light pink.
You could create more contrast by making the center of the flower darker, but that could be difficult at this point. Or you could make the stamems darker.
Hi Ann,
a fine use of commercial prints, good job! I like the shaping of the petals, and the quilting lines enhance that.
