Better late than never. I finally completed challenge 26. Continuing with my series of working from my watercolor paintings, I selected a bean pot/onion/spoon composition. I've posted both the watercolor and the fabric piece. Doing this in a monochromatic color scheme was a challenge because in the watercolor I can purples and blues to get the contrast.

Hi Kathy - The painting and the quilt are both really fine. You've done a great job interpreting the painting in fabric. The only part that feels a little discordant to me is the onion's shadow. In the painting I think the onion is closer to the wall and the shadow shows up only on the wall. In the quilt, the shadow seems a bit disconnected from the onion - perhaps part of the shadow needs to be on the table. Feel totally free to ignore this thought - I might not even see it that way if I saw the piece live and in person!
Thank you Roberta - you're right it does feel disconnected. The painting is matted so it brings everything in close. I think I'm going to mat the fabric piece also. When I do the mat edges almost touch the onion and the edge of the spoon, similar to the painting. The shadows then run off under the mat.

I like the fabric version much better as I find the blue tablecloth distracting. Great fabrics for the pot. One can see the shiny glaze on the upper part and I like the fabric/quilting on the lower part that adds more interest to the "glaze".
Gee Kathy, I am hard pressed to choose which I like better. I am amazed how realistic the light reflecting off the shiny pot is in both mediums! Great job...
