My neutrals are black, white and off white with an accent of gold. I paperpieced the 6 twisted log cabin diamonds using several varied types of fabric for texture and depth. I quilted the background and then appliqued the starfish by hand, then quilted around the black to accentuate the design.
As is often the case, my husband named it for me!
I know it is late, but your comments and suggestions are as always appreciated...

Cherie,
Your starfish is elegant, beautiful, perhaps out of this world! Your husband did a good job naming it. I love the motion in this piece and the rich glow that it has. What a wonderful job you did on this challenge, it was worth the wait.
Wow Cherie, this blows me away. You effectively created a 3-D star that has a lot of movement. Wonderful job and as Joni said, well worth the wait!
Hi Cherie, Yes, elegant is the word for your piece...with all the fancy fabrics and graceful curves. Love the gold with b&w and the use of cream color softens it. Really great job!

Cherie, this is amazing! I literally gasped when the pix came up! Such luminescence! Great job on an elegant, sophisicated piece!
Wow, those paperpieced log cabin blocks really did the trick, it is so realistic. Wonderful job Cherie.
Lovely!
Fantastic! You're drawn right into the starfish's mouth. Wonderful choice of colors and quilting to enhance it. The background seems to be moving water or rippled sand. Thanks for sharing this piece.
Thank you so much to all who have posted such lovely comments ! I was out of town for a month due to family emergencies and went through withdrawal pain not being able to create. This piece was very therapeutic for me :-)

I don't see a starfish as much as I see three fish tails shaped into a star. I like the textured black and white fabrics. Greate use of color.
absolutely stunning!what more can I say?
Wow! I'm just getting around to viewing the work at the blog. This one truly caught my eye. It's absolutely wonderful.

Wow!! I am just catching up and this is spectacular@ Sorry, but I don't see the star fish. I see the gold as gingko leaves with the black and white like a protective cloak wrapping them.
This is so elegant!
Well done!
