you have really done well in the way you used the transparent fabrics to depict the water. It really works well. you can almost feel the movement.
I am not quite sure, but this reminds me of a piece I looked at when I was researching horizon...I think this composition may be called split horizon. the distant horizon is hinted at, but there is a definite difference from one side to the other.
I like the bird. I can't see him very well, so I don't know if the wing has stitching. what do you think about stitching a horizontal pattern on the wing that is similar to the print on the body? It might help to pull him all together.
I think you did very well to balance the heavy visual of the pier with just the right number of fish. and the echoed colour helps with that, too.

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions. The bird has no stitching on the wing or anywhere else, for that matter. I was a bit uncertain on it, so I left it undone. I like the idea of echoing the pattern on the body so that is probably what I will do. As for horizon line, you will all be surprised to know that I *totally* forgot about the horizon requirement, so I am sitting here chuckling over the interpretations and speculations, though I do like the idea of an implied horzion. So my solution is to say, "Yeah, I meant to do that"!
Hi Ann, I really like the composition and the elements in this piece...my only comment is about value contrasts. There are alot of medium values and it probably would be more striking with some lights and darks for contrast.
I think the pier and flags are perfect and I enjoy the attitude of the all-knowing, all-seeing bird!
