butterfly nebula
This was a great challange. Thank you Cherie. I loved all the great sites to
visit. I chose to recreate the Butterfly nebula from the Hubble site. I felt
this waS a good chance to try silk hankie. It seemed the perfect material for
this nebula. I also included angelina fibers. The planet is made from two
different brocades - one a poly stretch. The entire piece is covered with
charcoal gray tulle, then hand quilted and beaded. What a blast!

Hi Pat...
Your butterfly is so graceful and etherial looking. Did you find it difficult working with silk hankie? What did you use for your background to make it look so deep in space?
Another lovely quilt...good work
Cherie
Hi Pat, I love the deep contrasts in this piece...the dark and light as well as the smooth feel of the background and the highly textured feel of the nebula and planet. The edges of the silk look so much like the gaseous clouds in the Hubble photos...really beautiful. My only suggestion is about the white masses...is there a way to break those up or thin them out so it's more transparent, less opaque?

Really nice contrast and texture you created. I like your beading and might suggest making some areas more heavily beaded to create some movement. Very pretty.
Pat, this butterfly nebula caught my eye too, the pinks and light blues are beautiful. I love the light wispy feel of the piece, and your sky is very effective too. Nice job!
I like all the texture in this piece and wouldn't change a thing. Good choices of material as the planet is definitely solid and the nebula so light with just hints of sparkle.
Pam
Thank you everyone for the comments. I will try more sparkles as suggested. The white that looks so dense on the screen really doesn't look the same in fabric. Too bad I don't know how to make the photo look like the real npiece.

Hi Pat - I saw this picture and thought it would be a great jumping off place for this challenge. I'm glad you used it. The nebula turned out really well as did the planet. The tiny glints of light in the background give the piece a great sense of depth.
Very effective butterfly.
Effective piece. Love the outside edges of the butterfly. As I look at the piece I see depth. Good job!
