I started this quilt for the July challange. Due to family problems I never had a chance to finish it. Yesterday I finally had a chance to think about it and it seemed to me to fit both July and August so I finished it and am entering it now.
I started with four layers of fabric and cut away layers for the right effect. I edge stitched all the pieces because they had no other way of staying in place. The leaf is cut from printed fabric and painted with Sheva stix. The leaf shadow is net. It is very unusual for me to work with blue anything. I have a lot of blue pieces in my stash but never seem to use them. This piece has blue faille, dark blue chiffon, silver lame andice blue chiffon. It was a great challange. Thank you! Pat Havey

I really like this piece. It's so relaxing and just the right expression of a drop in a puddle. The leaf is the added piece of color needed to make this a WOW piece.

I do think the piece works well with this challenge.
I think the net shadow is ver realistic.
I am not quite sure if you are trying to do ripples in a puddle or a sort of vortex. If it is a vortex, have you thought about putting some smaller leaves circulating and leading the eye toward the centre. or maybe just a few scraps of the orange that are getting sucked down into the centre. I think you might show more depth that way.
It must have been hard to photgraph the silver lame. I am sure the piece must really come alive in person. you have done well in the way you have combined it with the other fabrics to depict the water! a very brave choice, silver lame is NOT the easiest fabric to work with!! but it does work for water here.

This piece really works on many levels. The composition is balanced and draws your eye into the subject. The color choice is very soothing and the fabrics re-enforce the image you are creating. I am inspired by the cutting through layers of fabric and the freedom of design it makes possible. I love the shadow on the leaf and now I want to try that too..Thank you for sharing.
Hi Pat, very cool piece. Did you consider having more than one leaf? Just a thought, I'm not sure it would improve it and it might distract from the lovely ripple and reflection. This is one of those pieces that is striking from afar and draws you in for a closer look.

I love this piece. It is very zen. The orange and blue compliment each other, while the small intense orange balances the reflective cool larger blue areas. Nicely done.
