Continuing on my theme for this year branching out - here is my piece Rain Falls. Measures 10 1/2 by 22.
I took an more abstract tree branches with wool yarn - with wool roving foliage - then tulle as rain. The wool roving and the tulle are for the transparency - the horizontal horizon worked perfectly with the trees. Looking back over this past year I noticed I tended to do portraits size rather than landscaped.

Nice job. I like the squares in your sky area. The trees look like they do when they have turned for the fall and are missing leaves.

This really looks like a rainy, windy day. I love the contrast of the wonky almost dancing trees against the coolness of the geometric background.

I love the wool roving! What a really good way to show the way a downpour seems to melt the leaves on the trees.
the tulle also works very well to show sheeting rain. I am glad "I" am not out in it!
I have not tried pieced backgrounds, but the way you did yours with the monotones also gives the transparent feel of trying to see through all the rain. you start thinking is that a building in the distance, but it is all too blurry and all you can make out are the tree trunks. but they begin to look wobbly and you have to wipe the rain out of your eyes.

But it is a great piece and I love the way everything melts together...even the ground.
I hope you enter the work somewhere. and if so, I hope there is someone who appreciates the sense of being there you have been able to acheive.

Lisa, I've never been to Seattle, but this is what I've imagined it would be like. I really like the background. Just wonder if the binding around the top would give the illusion of continuing into the distance if it matched the background? Just curious.....trees, "rain", ditto to the compliments previously stated!!!

A very effective piece capturing the feeling you were after. The slanted metallic (?) quilting is very good at creating the feeling of wind driven rain. The background provides interest and and the illusion of sheets of rain. Did you consider other colors for the binding or consider "pillow-casing" it ?...Nice impressionistic feel to the trees...
