Hi Kathy, this is stark and vivid at the same time, which perfectly captures the feeling of late fall. Nicely composed and balanced and the tree is very expressive. Great job!

Beautiful colors of autumn and your quilting lines fit so well with this piece. I love autumn because of the colors but when the trees lose their leaves it only means that everything will soon be white. I do love this piece and would enjoy hanging it in my home any time.
The simplicity here is what gives this piece its power. Love the color choices and the contrasts... great job!

Thank you for your comments! One of the things I love about using haiku as inspiration is that is seems to beg for simplicity.
Several people mention the moon fabric. Like the others it started as white PFD cotton. I used soy wax to create the moon circle and then dyed it blue. Once layered I hand stippled the blue with embroidery floss - a process that took more time than all the rest of the quilt!
Kathy this is wonderful. I love the clean lines and the combination of colors used. This piece is simple and elegant. The mood is in keeping with your poem.

I agree, the simplicity makes this a classic piece. The moon fabric is very effective, eliciting the elusive feel of the moon. The batiks work well, implyin texture with their subtle pattern. I like the simple lines and the quilting you have done. This is a wonderful piece which evokes the feeling of the haiku you wrote.

The combination of your intense colors and the sweeping lines of the quilting are so effective in drawing the eye deeper into the scene. A stunner!
