This is a weekend of firsts for me, first blog post, first FFFC, first time using colored pencil on fabric. Dandelions are my favorite flower and on reading the challenge and thumbing through my photos, I decided to work from some macro shots I had taken with a dark background. Some of the flowers are done with embroidery - silk ribbon, embroidery floss and silk thread. Others are done in colored pencil. The bees are also colored pencil. I'm very pleased with the look of the individual flowers, but feel like the composition is a bit lacking.

I like dandelions, too, and I like that you are trying to portray them in various stages of maturity and in varying distances from the "lens." I think because all the stems terminate at the bottom of the piece we're missing some perspective.
Next time you might try hitting the sweet spot with the brightest one and move the others to different heights in the piece. The sweet spot can be any intersection of two lines if you divide the space into thirds in both directions. The brightest white one is almost at the lower left sweet spot. Try cropping the photo in software to see the difference it might make.

I love what you did with these. They are lacking some depth and Diane's suggestion of varying the heights is a good one. It might help if there is some variation in the background color...hit some light spots and make some even darker.
Nice job on the dandelions. I, too, think they blend into the background too much and I would like to see the bees better. I think the suggestion of alternating the stem heights is good.
It's a very pleasing quilt.
I love the look of the dandelions and the way they merge with the batik. The stems on the right look like they are underwater!! Cool effect!
I like this a lot.. and since it is done... what would happen if you darkened some of the background behind the dandelions.. to make them come forward more? I am thinking Inktense pencil may or paint?
Very cool Ticia! I hope you explore and expand your idea into a larger piece...it would be a wonderful entry to the annual In Full Bloom exhibit at Houston. Most flower pieces are pretty and colorful, but this is dramatic and unusual. Did you consider just a bit of sparkle...say some metallic thread in the brown part of the centers...or along one side of the some of the seed parachutes.

It feels like a scene at night in a full moon (I guess bees don't fly at night though, do they? Maybe fireflies? LOL) Of course I love the suggestion of adding a bit of sparkle, me being the queen of glitz and all
