Leaf Lady
I took a design class for three years and focused on quilts with leaves - so I was referred to as the "She who quilts leaves."
Anyway - it really doesn't look like me - I used two of my favorite techniques - the curved piecing of the bark - and fused leaves - I fuse the leaves then cut out the veins - I like this method for pop value - but in order to keep the leaves in place I have to quilt really close together - usually lines or a grid. After that I had to add eye lashes - and a little bling to the hair. I guess adding bling is another thing I do often. The best place in the to buy sequins is http://www.ccartwright.com/. Final measurement 12x14
This project was way outside my box - actually I've always looked at the portrait quilts but never wanted to do one - so thanks for pushing me. It was tempting to skip this one but my personal goal is do do everyone one of these challenges.

I love your leafy self!
Lisa, this one really made me laugh! As a resident of the Pacific Northwest, I'm sure you're aware of the native tradition of faces of the tree spirits... that's where my head went. The colors are great fun... I think she could be happier, how 'bout a smile on her face? Or maybe a bit flirty with a wink? This could be great fun in a series. Great job!
Lisa, this is cute. Good on you for completing this challenge. I do like your leaves.
Hi Lisa - What a fun piece - great colors. I particularly like the leafy hair. I'm glad you talked yourself into completing this challenge.

Hi Leaf Lady....... I am so glsad you did this, outside your box or not... it is very well done!!
I like her how she is, because you made her that way, but I like Wendy's idea, flirty eyes.. winking... a sly smile... make people wonder what she is thinking... a wonderful series in the making?
I admire you did this, I am so literal, but would like to think like this. You have inspired me to do something along this line. I love faces and see them everywhere, but couldn't bring it out, even in this challenge!!

Leafy Lisa,
What a fun quilt, this was a hard challenge to start, but ended up being alot of fun. I like your "bling" and your creative spirit. Joni
I'm glad you decided not to skip this challenge. It is another one that made me laugh when I saw it.
So cute.

Hi Lisa, good for you sticking to your goal of accepting all the challenges this year! Cool leaves!
Cynthia

Hi Lisa,
I think she looks like a cactus who can't figure out why she just sprouted leaves! I really think this is cute, and I love your leaf technique, too. I also like the "she who quilts leaves" tagline. Great job.

Hi Lisa, I'm going through the pieces tonight and commenting... better late than never.
The eyes in your piece remind me of a raccoon (a look of surprise), and I like your use of 'bling' on the leaves. The bling looks more like metallic fabric paint rather than sequins, to me.
In looking at your piece overall, I'm reminded of having seen trees that have faces carved in them. Tree spirits...in the flesh so-to speak...and they were haunting and whimsical at the same time. Your piece has accomplished whimsical very nicely!
