Another piece on dupioni silk.

I have been seeing this piece in my minds eye for some time
and thought it would work here.
It is very simple, just free motion everything and I would like your comments please.
Particularly with regard the red square in the 'focal' circle. I only stitched once through it, thought I would do it a few more times, however, one second thought, it is not visible from a few steps back, yet a closer look adds that 'element of surprise'.
Thoughts?

Carole.... I love that you took a wholecloth approach. I like the idea that a totally different shape is inside it. I think I would make it a bit more visible and maybe put a triangle inside it! Did you use variegated thread or change threads for each circle?

I am glad to see a whole cloth piece in this challenge! I had considered something similar but my own quilting is sub-X!!!

Hi Carole,
I like your piece and the different fabric used to emphasize the focal point!
For me, the darker threads used to outline the larger circles (e.g. red/fuschia in upper left and purple/blue in lower right circles) distract from the focal point. They pull my eye away from it. Also, the square in the focal point doesn't add anything to the piece, from my perspective. From further away, you don't see it, and closer up, it confuses the actual focal point. Then the question becomes whether the focus is the yellow/gold circle or the square within that circle.
Your circles fairly shimmer Carol. Did you say you used dupion? I love working on it! The square in the center of the one focal circle is brilliant! I love it!!

It is all one piece, the colored circle is inked with Tsuekeino [sp?] and I changed threads each time.
Cay Denise, I thought maybe the darker circles were competing, too and have thought of lightening them. I will be adding another round of thread to the square and an inverted triangle to really draw the eye to that point.

This is very interesting. I can't decide how I feel about the gold circle. On the one hand, it definitely meets the definition of a focal point. On the other hand, the larger circles themselves could have served that purpose against the smaller background circles (maybe fewer of them). On the third? hand, I keep wanting to move that gold circle somewhere toward the middle!
So I'm a little torn on this one, but it is certainly an interesting take on this challenge, and sparks a lot of ideas. I do like the wholecloth approach, and the silk is gorgeous.

Keep the square as is - it works and a nice surprise not being too obvious. I like the piece and the shimmer of the silk.
Carole, this is a stunning piece of work. I love the way you've used color around the circles. I see the gold circle as a focus,perhaps if it wasn't there , then there wouldn't be a focus? With all that said it is still a wonderful piece of artwork.
This is so neat. Reminds me of bubble wrap.

Hi Carole, I like the cool and shimmering feel of your piece. It feels icy to me...so the warm gold focal point feels a bit out of place to me. Another though I had...would it be more interesting to have more variety of size in the big circles?
It's a good concept and quilting is beautiful.
