This piece was based on my favorite words from the poem brillig , mimsy , slithy toves, and borogoves. I put some of each in there can you find them?I painted the background with Shiva sticks and did not like it ... tooo flat so I started playing with thread. I also used angelina fibers, copperflakes, and acrylic paint.

I love this quilt! This is one of my favorites, the colors are gorgeous. I don't know what materials you used but the have great texture and intricacy. There is a lot going on and it invites the viewer to just stare and stare and stare. Great job!

You have captured the essence of the words…brilliance and flowery, with slinky lines and things moving in the dark. The complementary colors of orange and blue/green show up very well and the bits of chartreuse are very painterly and effective. Wonderful threadwork and surface effects (texture!!!). Regarding the balance of the composition…I have mixed feelings. It seems a bit top heavy…but it also works! It makes it look like the flowers are floating and the slithery creature is coming down from the heavens. I think that adds to the mystery and interest, so the heck with the “classical” balance question….it’s great as it is! Love it!

Funny you should say top heavy the piece originally was turned the other side up but I liked it better this way...

Hi Jacque - this is a wow piece. It has so many good things going - excellent color mixing, hard edged elements mixed with soft, lots of varying textures. I'd like to meet this quilt in person. It reminds me of a beautiful antique piece of jewelry or a richly embroidered dress - something complex and sumptuous and rich.

I liked the word "mimsy" too. It's interesting I used flowers and spikes also.
Very captivating piece. The layering of all your techniques gives a depth you would not have achieved if you'd been satisfied with the Shiva results.
It has great movement too, as if all the elements were dancing around. I like it just as it is.
I'm curious though what the edge treatment is, since the photo appears to crop it out. Quilt edges are one of my recent interests.
I finished this quilt by folding the binding back from the edge so you can only see the binding on the back it gives a more solid feel to the edge but does not become part of the front.
