Wonderful composition. Great colors. Interesting shadow shape.
Is that a pin cushin in a gravy boat? How neat. How did you do the pins? I thought maybe you used polka dot fabric, but the closer view looks like they are individual pieces You didn't cut out a hundred teeny tiny circles, did you?
On first glance I thought the pink spool was two spools. A more gradual color change would have helped.
Good perspective on the book (box?).
The gray shadow is cast upon a textured surface. What if you used a textured fabric for the shadow to make the shadow seem more like it was part of the table? It wouldn't have to match exactly with the table texture, but if it related more to the table fabric color wise and texture wise, it would look more like a shadow.
Thank you Linda--
The pin cushion is a gravy boat and the pin heads were pieces of fabric that had fusible web on the back and I used a paper punch and punched them out.
I set everything up on my cutting table and took a picture. The sun was coming from the left and the left side of the pink and yellow threads came through as white. That pink spool did bother me but I didn't really know what to do about it.
The book is my favorite part of the whole thing.
I see what you mean about the shadow.
Maybe I should have used a brown organza so the table would show through?

Hi Betty - I think your quilt is well done. I particularly like the green spool with its inner color gradations.
I think the shadow's shape is quite good. It still would be possible to give it a texture similar to the table by the addition of some lines of quilting. Even the use of a monofilament would leave some indentations to create the feeling of the lines on the table.
Good job.

Your quilt is so much fun. The fabrics you chose for the thread spools is perfect and I love the attetion to detail in the roll of fabric.
Beautiful 3-d effect in your still life!
Hi Betty, this looks like a still life of your favorite things (and mine too). Good job on the threads, especially the purple ones with the variegated color. I look forward to seeing more of your work.

Betty,
I love the pins and the way you've shown different angles of the spools. I agree that the shadow would look even better with some machine quilting to suggest the grain of the wood. You might even be able to get away with using some brown-toned thread to blend the shadow more with the table (lay the thread down on the quilt first to see if you like the effect).
