My winged thing is a crow perched on a snowy branch, in a fractured background of blue, orange and purple. Fun challenge, thanks Jan!

Thanks in advance for you comments!
The simplicity of this makes it exqusite Cynthia! Colors are great and the quilting exceptional.
I love the way you 'attacked' this challenge. Just fracturing the background has made for a beautiful composition. Great colors, and great job.
Again, this has a distinctly oriental flavor Cynthia. I am especially drawn to the stark contrast of crow against the white tree branch. The colors are elegant and your quilting beautiful.

Agree with everyone's comments. Love the contrast of the background and the crow is realistic.

Great idea to just fracture the background. Your branches and crow are excellent. My eye is drawn to the straight line dividing the two oranges - maybe if it had been a bit more diagonal like the other lines? Just a thought.
I like your simple approach to fracturing. I think that was the hardest part of this challenge for everyone. Your quilting enhances each fractured area and the simple quilting on the snow gives it the appearance of being a bit deeper than the other areas. the orange and blue gives it the appearance of the day gradually warming or cooling. Great job!
Love this piece. You did a great job capturing the snow on the branch, and the blue and purple behind it make it look even more realistic and cold. Love the bird, the quilting and the simplicity.
This background make the fracturing look so easy. I love the snow.
Very nice piece. Love your sense of color for the fractured ground. Simple yet affective. Nice quilting!
Thanks, everyone. I quite like the branch and the blue/purple right side, but am bothered by the horizontal line on the orange side. I'm staring at it and considering cropping or adding a big moon.

Oh, I vote for a moon! I think a nice transluscent moon would be lovely!
Cherie
I vote for a moon.
I didn't realize until I read the comments that the icy colored background was background -- I thought of it as cold mountain or something in the middleground--interesting since warm colors normally advance, Maybe that's just me. Anyway, that diagonal part of the fracture, and the progression of that section from bottom to lighter, clearer top added a lot to the modd and feel. I love the contrast of the branches, making them really important to the composition and emphasizing the element of line.
Cynthia, this is just simply beautiful just as it is. If you think it needs something, I would vote for a moon as opposed to cropping. This composition has it all- interest, movement, contrast, texture.... I could go on and on! Lovely work!
Cynthia,
I too love your crow and I especially like the snowy branch against the blue mountain background. It is very beautiful.

Cynthia I love love love this piece. I think the colors work really well with each other. The snow on the limb is so lifelike and of course I love crows and blackbirds. Really nice.
Love it. Sorry it took me so long to comment. Life is still
getting in the way.
