Challenge 54 "Leaning Toward Spring"

This little piece is 12” x 9 ½”. I’m not sure that it meets the challenge—but MY challenge was to do something and get it done on time! It has been a long time since I’ve done a challenge. I quilted the background in curves and then did the applique work. I sit here surrounded by snow very much feeling the draw of Spring!!

This totally encapsulates the mood you wanted. The curved stitching in the background and the wonderful choice of fabric give a sense of movement, and the restrained use of the pink buds leaning to one side give a focal point and meaning. Lovely.

Thanks for participating Sally. Of course this meets the challenge! I like the way the leaves curve in and out for dimension and the quilting lines can be interpreted as sun rays or a spring breeze. Nice job!

This is so elegant! The curves of the leaves and buds make the plant seem very dynamic - drawn to the sun.

I love your use of color in this piece. Green set against green is not the usual choice but the leaves stand out with a delicate beauty that culminates in that pink. How will you finish the edges?

I am using a narrow edge binding of the background fabric. I have a few more inches of handwork and it will be complete. The binding blends well into the background.

Thanks for the comments.
